Graphic Designers and Illustrators - Overview

Overview

The programs in the recreation studies and management subcluster prepare people to understand the properties of recreation and leisure and provide recreational services.

It may seem strange to think about studying recreation. The words don't even fit together, right? But think about the different kinds of recreational activities available to us. Each of us is unique and has different interests, and yet for most of us, it's not hard to find something we enjoy doing in our free time.

Recreation studies and management programs are based on the idea that recreation is important for our development and well-being. Examining the properties of recreation from sociological, historical, and economic points of view helps the recreation industry grow.

Recreation, fitness, and leisure studies programs teach you to think about recreation in a broad way. You think about why people need recreation and how different people define recreation and leisure. You also examine fitness and sports as other sources of well-being.

The other programs in this subcluster prepare you to supervise the operations of recreational and leisure services in more specific ways. You might focus on travel services or fitness services. Or you could focus on one type of management such as marketing.
